More than 200 scholars, policy makers and educators from Hong Kong and overseas gathered on 18 June at The Hong Kong Institute of Education (HKIEd) for the opening of the two-day “Quality Childhood Conference International 2015”. Providing a platform on which to discuss research and experiences in the field, the conference is co-organised by the Centre for Childhood Research and Innovation (CCRI) and the Department of Early Childhood Education at HKIEd, and the Faculty of Education at the University of Cambridge.

Officiating at the opening ceremony were Professor Stephen Cheung Yan-leung, President of HKIEd, and Mrs Marion Lai Chan Chi-kuen, Permanent Secretary for Education.

In his welcoming remarks, Professor Cheung emphasised that the core mission of the Institute is to promote and provoke educational research and practice. He added that “the conference is striving to provide a timely and excellent platform for international academics, stakeholders, policy makers and practitioners to advance communication, collaborate and exchange their knowledge of the enhancement of quality childhood education”.

The conference comprised four keynote speeches, one symposium, one invited talk, three invited workshops and 22 parallel sessions. More than 100 presenters gathered to discuss their evidence-based research findings on quality childhood education.
