Second SSBs Forum cum Signing Ceremony of Collaborative Agreement

 

 

The Hong Kong Institute of Education (HKIEd) signed a collaborative agreement on 23 June with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Taoist Association and Hong Chi Association, following its signing of agreements with other school sponsoring bodies (SSBs) in 2010 and 2014. The total number of SSBs with which the Institute now partners is 11, sponsoring a third of Hong Kong’s schools.
 
Officiating at the Second SSBs Forum cum Signing Ceremony of Collaborative Agreement was Mrs Michelle Wong Yau Wai-ching, Deputy Secretary for Education. The agreement was signed by Professor Stephen Cheung Yan-leung, HKIEd President; Rev Ben Chang Chun-wa, Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hong Kong; Mr Henry Tong Sau-chai, Head of Education Service Department of the Hong Kong Taoist Association; and Mr Philip Poon, Chairman of the Hong Chi Association. At the accompanying forum, which brought together various senior educators and SSB management members, the Honourable Jasper Tsang Yok-sing, President of the Legislative Council, delivered a keynote speech entitled “The continuity of Education Mission: the Roles and Leadership of SSBs”.
 
In his welcoming remarks, Professor Cheung said that SSBs have been important partners for the government, making significant contributions to local education. “The SSBs partnering with HKIEd are of different backgrounds, but they all have great foresight and rise up to challenges, which are worth learning from”, he said.
 
HKIEd now partners with the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong; Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui; the Hong Kong Council of the Church of Christ in China; the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals; Po Leung Kuk; the Methodist Church, Hong Kong; the Hong Kong Buddhist Association; Yan Oi Tong; the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hong Kong; the Hong Kong Taoist Association; and the Hong Chi Association. The Institute will strengthen collaboration with these partner schools in the areas of field experience and the co-organisation of conferences and academic seminars allowing the sharing of teaching and learning experiences.
 
Also of significance will be scholarships established by HKIEd open to outstanding students who want to join the teaching profession and have been nominated by school principals from the partner SSBs.
